Lost in Translation

Ok, this has nothing to do with the movie, just so you know. I haven't even seen it.

I actually had a question that I wanted to ask. I was wondering what translation is most preferred by you? What reasons do you read the translation you read? If you read multiple translations, which one do you read most often and why? And also, if you read multiple translations, why do you prefer those over other translations? And lastly, which translation do you prefer for an easy read and which one for translation accuracy? Thanks for your opinion!

I predominantly use the NIV version. The only reason I can give for that is because it's what I grew up on, and what I'm most familiar with.

I wish I were more of a scholar and could study texts in their original languages, but I haven't found time yet to learn Hebrew, Greek, & Aramaic. Sigh.

I mostly use the NIV, also... But I do like to use multiple translations and compare and analyze the different wordings. On a day that I get really into it, I could have as many as six translations in use: NIV, The Message, NKJV, New Living, New Century & New Revised Standard. (That doesn't happen often...)
My favorite for comprehension is NIV, and my favorite for language is NKJV...
I also wish I could study them in their original languages... :)

yes.. learning them in the original language would be preferable, but alas, a whole other language is a very difficult task!

*learning* a whole other language... yes, bad grammar.. blah..

Drew, it looks like you could spend more time learning this language.

I read NAS because I heard it was the most literal translation, that is, word-by-word translation. But that doesn't make it the best translation because translating is more than getting the words right, it also means getting the meaning right.

When I want to see the text in a fresh light I read The Message.

I read the Living Bible. It is the most accurate to the original languages.

is that different than the New Living Translation?
